Determined to be more effective in the new year? Start with your written communications. Resolve to make your business letters and e-mails about the recipient, not you or your company.
How? Avoid starting correspondence with the word "I" (which is the same as "we" or the company name). Prioritize the recipient and his needs, not you and your needs.
- Rather than "Our company can offer you a significant cost-savings on your next purchase."
- Try wording like "Could you benefit from a significant cost-savings on your next purchase?" Or "Why not start the new year off with a significant cost savings on your next purchase?"
Now you've caught your reader's attention. You can begin motivating him to continue reading.
