Tell 'Em At A Tele-Meeting

Airline prices are skyrocketing.  Video cameras are now standard on new computers.  The result is obvious.  Teleconferencing is becoming the way we do business.  Rest assured, you don't have to be Jon Stewart or Jay Leno to be part of this revolutionary change in business dealings.  You just have to be you.  To translate your "in person" charm to "on camera" skills:

  • Avoid seeming robotic (a la Wall-E).  Look into the lens as though it were a person.
  • Converse as though you are sitting directly across from one or more people in Chula Vista or China.
  • Pause between speakers. Sound travels more slowly than video.  If both sides speak at the same time, frustration results.
  • Rather than camera stare, glance down occasionally.  This relaxes both you and those at your tele-meeting.

With training and practice, teleconferencing can translate into a less stressful, less physically- and fiscally-demanding meeting approach with equal -- make that better -- business results.

This cue is brought to you by Executive Speak/Write, oral and written communications trainers who want to ensure you Make your point. Get results. with your communications.
