Does Your Writing Sell?

You are always in sell mode when writing a letter, e-mail, executive summary, report, etc.  You are selling your point of view to your audience, be it motivation, persuasion, even a message as subtle as I am/we are on top of things.  To get your message across:

  • Start with wording that is about the reader.  Opening with "I" or "we" makes it all about you.
  • Keep your message informational but succinct.  Few readers will take in all the details, so "sell short."
  • Watch your tone.  Mirror the approach you would take in a conversation on this particular subject with this particular audience.

"Spoon feeding" the reader requires getting -- and keeping attention.  The easier it is to grasp the message, the more apt the reader is to bite.

This cue is brought to you by Executive Speak/Write, oral and written communications trainers who want to ensure your communications are relationship-driven
